Imagine strolling down the vibrant high streets of an Indian city, where retail showrooms battle fiercely for your gaze with dazzling chandeliers, eye-catching advertisement boards, and elaborately decorated façades. Now, picture a jewellery headquarters that flips the script entirely—opting for quiet elegance over loud spectacle. That's the radical approach behind Fluted Volume, and it's sure to make you question everything you think you know about attracting customers!

More Specs Less Specs
The architects themselves provided this detailed description. In the heart of India's bustling urban centers, retail spaces like showrooms frequently vie for your attention through shiny chandeliers, prominent signage, and intricately designed exteriors. But Fluted Volume, a sprawling 7,000 square foot headquarters for a prominent jewellery brand located in Vijayawada, adopts a strikingly contrasting philosophy. Crafted by talented designers Vineet Vora and Prachi Parekh from Studio Urban Form + Objects, this structure presents itself as a solid, terracotta-colored block: simultaneously artistic in shape, understated in demeanor, and confidently commanding within the surrounding city environment. Its distinctive design springs from a fascinating core challenge embedded in the project's requirements—namely, how to construct a space that's meant to be seen by passersby, draw in visitors, and authentically represent the brand's essence.
And this is the part most people miss: in a world obsessed with flashy marketing, could a subtle, monolithic design actually outperform the loud and flashy alternatives in building long-term brand loyalty?

But here's where it gets controversial: Some critics argue that in a competitive retail landscape, a reticent design like this might fail to stand out, potentially hurting foot traffic. Others, however, praise it as a refreshing departure from over-the-top aesthetics, suggesting it could set a new trend for thoughtful, sustainable branding. What do you think—does subtlety triumph over spectacle in modern architecture? We'd love to hear your take in the comments—agree, disagree, or share your own examples of bold versus restrained designs!
