Loewe's Journey to a Global Luxury Brand

Loewe, the Spanish luxury house, has been a prominent fixture on Avenue Montaigne in Paris since 1996. But here's where it gets interesting: they've recently taken a giant leap by transforming their presence into a full-fledged Casa Loewe flagship, officially opening its doors this Wednesday. This move is a significant milestone in Loewe's journey to becoming a global luxury powerhouse.

A Comprehensive Luxury Experience

The new 6,250-square-foot flagship offers a complete range of men's and women's ready-to-wear, bags, shoes, and an array of accessories, including small leather goods, jewelry, and eyewear. Additionally, it boasts a dedicated home department featuring blankets, cushions, and fragrances, providing a holistic luxury experience. Pascale Lepoivre, Loewe's CEO, explains, "Paris is a key fashion capital, and this flagship is crucial for enhancing our brand visibility and awareness, both locally and among tourists."

A Journey of Expansion and Refinement

Loewe's journey on Avenue Montaigne has been marked by significant milestones. In 2013, they unveiled a major expansion, followed by a comprehensive refurbishment in 2021, setting the current design concept. This concept envisions the store as the home of an avid collector, showcasing art, design, and crafts.

Lepoivre attributes Loewe's rapid growth to their focus on brand awareness, product offerings, and successful 360-degree animations that seamlessly connect creativity, culture, and craftsmanship across all touchpoints. "Our retail presence had to evolve to match the stature of the brand," she adds.

Design Highlights: A Fusion of Art and Functionality

Key design elements on Avenue Montaigne include slender ceramic tiles in vibrant hues of green, blue, orange, and silver, complemented by expansive marble surfaces and brass and iron trimmings. The store's design, crafted by Loewe's in-house team and architect Paula Aza Custodio, took about a year to complete.

The sprawling new Casa in Paris, with entrances at Nos. 46 and 48, showcases a series of windows that bathe the space in natural light, highlighting unique furniture, paintings, sculptures, and vessels.

A Showcase of Artistic Legacy

Among the artistic pieces on display are Gerrit Thomas Rietveld's whipstitched Utrecht armchairs, John Allen's vibrant landscape rugs, and a monumental cotton wall hanging by Franz Erhard Walther, all remnants from the Jonathan Anderson era. Anderson, the Northern Irish designer, propelled Loewe to acclaim during his 11-year tenure before taking on the design helm at Christian Dior Couture earlier this year.

His successors, the American design duo Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, showcased their first collection during Paris Fashion Week last October for the spring 2026 season. They paid homage to Anderson's signature ceramic tiles by transforming them into sleek benches for the audience.

A Fusion of Art and Design

The Casa also features George Nakashima chairs and Isamu Noguchi lighting fixtures, alongside bespoke Loewe creations, including puffy leather benches, marble plinths, and a black terrazzo coffee table. Eclectic works on display include paintings by Walter Price, an imposing wall panel by Henry Moore, and large-scale ceramics by South African artist Zizipho Poswa.

Interspersed throughout are examples of stoneware, basket-weaving, ceramics, and woodworking from victors of the annual Loewe Foundation Craft Prize, founded in 2016, adding a unique artisanal touch.

Warmly Inviting, Commercially Effective

According to Lepoivre, "All our stores are designed to be both warmly inviting and commercially effective. Each Casa follows a unique design, with art and furniture bespoke to that location, like the gold-ceramic facade of our Casa Jing'an in Shanghai."

Currently, Loewe operates 15 freestanding Casa flagships globally, including locations in Barcelona and Madrid, its home country.

Future Expansions: Paris, New York, and Milan

Looking ahead, Loewe plans to expand its existing store on Rue Saint-Honoré to become its second Casa in Paris, emphasizing the importance of the French market. Additionally, 2026 will see Loewe open its first Casa in the U.S. on Madison Avenue in New York and its inaugural Casa in Italy, in Milan.

Lepoivre notes that Casa flagships are the first to receive new collections, capsules, and limited-edition products, offering unique experiences for Loewe's valued customers (VICs).
