Liam Rosenior Accuses Arsenal of Disrespect After Disruption to Chelsea Warm-Up
Liam Rosenior has accused Arsenal of disrespecting Chelsea by disrupting their warm-up before the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final. Television cameras captured Chelsea's head coach losing his temper and directing a foul-mouthed outburst at an unidentified member of Arsenal staff for encroaching into the wrong half of the pitch before the teams faced off at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
Rosenior, visibly furious at the time, emphasized the importance of certain football etiquettes on Thursday when asked why the incident angered him so much. He stated, 'It wasn't the Arsenal players. I'm respectful. When you warm up, you have your designated half, and the other team has theirs. I've never instructed my team or coaches to invade the opposition's territory. In that moment, I felt they were operating in the wrong area, affecting my team's and staff's warm-up.
'I asked them, not politely, to stay in their half. I'm not here for mind games. It's about maintaining respect and fairness. I hope we and other teams respect this unspoken rule in football. There are certain etiquettes to observe. I strive to be as respectful as possible, and I always want to win. I've never pressured my coaches to do anything unethical. I have the utmost respect for Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's manager. It was just a moment where I felt my team's respect was not reciprocated.'
Despite the incident, Arsenal secured a spot in the final with a late Kai Havertz goal, winning 4-2 on aggregate. Chelsea, criticized for their cautious approach, faced challenges due to key player absences.
Rosenior assured that Cole Palmer, who entered the game in the second half against Arsenal, is ready to play the full 90 minutes when Chelsea visits Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday. The availability of Pedro Neto and Reece James, who have minor knocks, remains uncertain. Jamie Gittens, however, is sidelined with a torn hamstring.
