On the other side, the injury-ridden 76ers struggled to keep up. Tyrese Maxey managed to score 20 points, but the team was without key players like Joel Embiid, who was sidelined due to right knee injury management; Paul George, out with a right ankle sprain; and rookie VJ Edgecombe, who was dealing with left calf tightness.
The game started evenly, with both teams tied at 35 points each after the first quarter. Joel Embiid's absence was notable; this was his eighth consecutive missed game and his 11th this season. Embiid, the seven-time All-Star and 2023 MVP, had been recovering from left knee surgery at the start of the season, limiting his playing time to 20-25 minutes when available, but has since faced issues with his right knee.
Paul George, who signed a lucrative four-year, $212 million deal with Philadelphia before the previous season, made his season debut on November 17 after undergoing offseason knee surgery. Unfortunately, he missed the game against Orlando after playing in the previous two games.
