The fate of Bihar's 2025 elections hangs in the balance, with vote counting underway and the political landscape ripe for change!
The anticipation is palpable as the results for the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 are revealed today. Counting has begun, starting with postal ballots, setting the stage for what promises to be a dramatic day. After an intense campaign and 20 years of rule, the JD(U), led by Nitish Kumar, and its NDA allies are vying to maintain their grip on power. Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan hopes to break the RJD's electoral dominance.
In Alinagar, a constituency that has long been an RJD stronghold, the spotlight is on folk singer Maithili Thakur, the BJP's candidate, who is facing off against RJD's Binod Mishra. The outcome here, and in other key constituencies like Lakhisarai and Arrah, will be closely watched.
But here's where it gets controversial...
Alinagar has been dominated for decades by veteran Abdul Bari Siddiqui, who secured seven victories before stepping down after his 2015 win. In 2020, the seat was won by VIP’s Mishri Lal Yadav, a former RJD stalwart who had switched to the NDA, by a narrow margin of just over 3,000 votes.
In Lakhisarai, the contest is between BJP candidate Vijay Kumar Sinha and JSP’s Suraj Kumar. Sinha is contesting from Lakhisarai for the sixth time. This constituency has been a BJP stronghold for the last three consecutive Assembly polls (2010, 2015, and 2020), largely due to caste dynamics, including Bhumihar and other upper-caste voters. Sinha, a Bhumihar leader, a civil engineer, and a former RSS worker, became the BJP’s first-ever Speaker in Bihar after the party came to power in alliance with the JD(U) in 2020.
In Arrah, the battle is between BJP’s Sanjay Singh “Tiger,” JSP’s Vijay Kumar Gupta, and CPI (ML)’s Quyamuddin Ansari. This seat has seen a back-and-forth between the BJP and the RJD in every Assembly election since 2010. Amrendra Pratap Singh of the BJP won in 2010 and 2020, with Ansari as the runner-up. In the 2015 bypoll, RJD candidate Mohammad Nawaz Alam emerged victorious.
And this is the part most people miss...
The outcomes in these constituencies will significantly shape the overall election results. The stakes are high, with each party vying for control. The early trends and final results will reveal whether the established political order will remain or if new players will emerge.
