Imagine dedicating years to studying physical therapy, only to face a grueling licensure exam that determines your entire career path. The December 2025 Physical Therapists Licensure Examination results are in, and the numbers are striking: only 1,198 out of 1,553 candidates passed, leaving many to reflect on their future. But here's where it gets controversial—what does this low pass rate say about the exam's difficulty or the preparedness of the candidates? Is it a fair assessment of their skills, or does it highlight gaps in the education system?
According to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), the exam was administered across nine locations in the Philippines, including NCR, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Pampanga, and Rosales. Interestingly, one examinee’s result was withheld pending further investigation, raising questions about the transparency and fairness of the process.
The Board of Physical Therapy, led by Hon. Eduardo R. Peregrino, Jr., along with members Hon. Raul G. Agustin and Hon. Bernadette M. Reyes, released the results in just two working days—an impressive turnaround time. But this is the part most people miss: starting January 19, 2026, registration for the Professional Identification Card (ID) and Certificate of Registration will be conducted entirely online. Successful examinees must visit www.prc.gov.ph, follow the registration instructions, and prepare specific documents, including an Oath Form, passport-sized photos, documentary stamps, and a short brown envelope.
Top-performing schools and the ten highest-scoring examinees were also recognized, as per Commission Resolution No. 1814 series of 2024. Yet, the bigger question remains: how can we ensure that future candidates are better equipped to succeed in this high-stakes exam?
The oathtaking ceremony for the new physical therapists is yet to be scheduled, but the journey doesn’t end here. As we celebrate the achievements of the passers, let’s also spark a conversation: What changes are needed in physical therapy education and licensure to foster more success stories?
